My Most Excellent Year ~ A Novel of Love, Mary Poppins & Fenway Park

Okay, I know you're all looking at me like I'm crazy right about now. The other day, my sister borrowed this book and insisted that I read it - hence the subject. There was one qoute...really long quote that made me laugh - while I was in english no less, Needless to say, the entire class thought I had lost my mind. LOL.

I thought I would share that quote. Partally because I don't understand football any more then 14 yr old, gay, broadway loving Augie can - so his parents finally put in terms that he could understand. So here we are:

hang time - Kate Fothergill holding a high C for sixteen bars of "I Got Rythm"
fumble - Joan Crawford trying to sing
turnover - what happened to anyone who tried to upstage Ethel Merman
option play - whether or not to take a ninth curtain call
offending team - what the Sharks thought the Jets were in West Side Story
end zone - where the chorus stands during the finale
dropback - what Katharine Hepburn did after Cary Grant pushed her face in The Philadelphia Story
handoff - Jane Powell taking over the lead in Royal Wedding when June Allyson go pregnant.

(and my favorite part)

Why didn't somebody tell me that football was such a no-brainer?! The Colts went for the extra curtain call but then Crawford sang for them and Marvin Harrison got in the way of the Merm. Friesz's kick held the high C for six seconds and forty-three yards, Ellison was waiting for them on the chorus line, and the Pats won 21 - 17.

Then his dad and boyfriend - both huge Patriot fans - started gushing about how proud they were.

I loved this book, its different then the stuff I usually read and was honestly a nice change. I will probably go and see if I can find it at Borders so I can go and memorize all the funny parts - basically the entire book.

If anyone's curious, it by Steve Kluger.

Which now that I look at the author surprises me...I was expecting a woman.

*shrugs*
